Four Mounds was founded as a non-profit organization in 1987 as a means to preserve the historic Four Mounds estate and make it available to the public for a variety of educational uses. Our community gardens and kitchen garden provide affordable, sustainably managed gardens to the public and to those in need. Four Mounds has a long history of sustainable food systems. The site originally featured a small dairy and hog shed. Today we continue to use the chicken house, kitchen garden, and root cellar, serving as a resource for our inn guests and youth programs. Four Mounds is the lead organizer for the Winter Farmers’ Market, providing easy access to fresh and local foods year-round, and creates opportunities for consumers to meet the farmers that are changing the agricultural landscape in the tri-state region.
Dubuque Rescue Mission
The Dubuque Rescue Mission is a community offering hospitality, spiritual hope, food, shelter, clothing and job development to those in need. Our Community Farm provides fresh produce to supplement daily meals programs in addition to facilitating opportunities for the men who reside at the Dubuque Mission, and the broader community, to reconnect with nature and it’s healing potential. Dubuque County ISU Extension & Outreach
The mission of the ISU Extension Local Foods program is to support resilient food systems and healthy communities through research, education, and community engagement with diverse partners. In Dubuque, our efforts have ranged from supporting the Dubuque Community Garden Coalition to working with schools to incorporate fresh local vegetables into school lunch, to researching the feasibility of a Food Hub to help area producers access larger institutional markets and more!Learn more about the Iowa State University Extension & Outreach Local Foods Program at extension.iastate.edu/localfoodsLearn more about the Dubuque County Local Foods Program at extension.iastate.edu/dubuque/localfoods
